CARL BUTLER DIES TUESDAY

Carl W. Butler, 76, of 1423 Prairie St., Grinnell, died of Alzheimer's disease Tuesday, March 26, at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Marcus Reitz officiating. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

Memorials in Mr. Butler's name may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Robert Lee and Lucy Parmley Butler, he was born Oct. 25, 1908, near Kellogg. He attended rural school and Grinnell High School, then farmed with his father in Chester Township.

On June 5, 1929, he was married to Lucille Ahrens at Newton. The couple farmed north of Grinnell for nine years, near Montezuma from 1933 to 1948, and in the Malcom area from 1948 to 1964 before coming to Grinnell. He was employed here by Ahrens Manufacturing Co. for seven years before his retirement.

Mr. Butler was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church near Malcom, the Elks Lodge, the Eagles Club and the Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille; two sons, Ronald C. of Grinnell and Willis E. of Sweeny, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Ruby Ahrens of Grinnell, Myrle Rink of Rochester, Minn., Faye Griffith of Pico Rivera, Calif., Gretchen Beck of Grinnell and Grace Duarte of Chino, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Wayne E. and Dale W.; one grandchild; and three brothers, Lawrence, Arnold and Robert Butler.
