JAMES SIMPSON

James A. Simpson, 59, West Liberty, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following a short illness.

The funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Liberty, with the Rev. Tim Bernermann officiating. Burial will be in North Prairie Cemetery, West Liberty. Friends may call Friday, Oct. 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Barker Funeral Chapel, West Liberty. A wake service will be held that evening at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Simpson was born Nov. 4, 1935, in Grinnell, the son of Alfred and Lena Wortman Simpson. He was married to Doris Olson Feb. 5, 1955, in Grinnell. He had been employed with the Rock Island Railroad and more recently with the Iowa Interstate Railroad.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, West Liberty, and the Eagles and Moose Lodges in Iowa City.

He is survived by his wife Doris, West Liberty; one son, Randy Simpson, Moscow, Iowa; two daughters, Luann Hoffman, Miami, Fla. and Karla Doruff, Illinois City, Ill.; one brother, Thomas Simpson and one sister, Barbara Schmidt, both of Grinnell, and three grandchildren.
