ELVA SIMPSON DIES AT 93

Elva Edith Simpson, 93, died Jan. 1 at Friendship Manor.

Memorial services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Revs. Philip J. Ramstad and Grover Branson officiating. Organist was Mrs. Donald Renaud, and soloist was Ed Phillips.

Burial of Mrs. Simpson's ashes will be at Wichita Park Cemetery, Wichita, Kan., on Jan. 16, following a brief memorial service at the Calvary Methodist Church there.

Memorials in Mrs. Simpson's name may be made to the Oriental Missionary Society International, Box A, Greenwood, Ind. 46142.

The daughter of Warner and Mary Kathryn Jackson, she was born Nov. 1, 1887, in Maywood, Neb. Her father, a minister, had parishes in Nebraska and several southern Iowa communities. She attended the Oskaloosa schools and Christian Holiness University at University Park.

On June 2, 1914, she was married to Rev. William Odell in Oskaloosa. The couple had two children. The family moved to Wichita, Kan., in 1927. The Rev. Mr. Odell died in 1933.

Mrs. Odell was parish assistant at the Calvary Methodist Church and also served as prayer group organizer for the Oriental Missionary Society.

On Oct. 18, 1953, she married John James Simpson in Bethel, Wash. They lived in Kirkland, Wash., until 1975 when, because of failing health, Mrs. Simpson came to Grinnell to be with her daughter.

Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ethel Schooley and Eunice Bliss; a brother, John Jackson; both husbands; and a son, William Edward Odell in World War II.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Spann of Denver, Colo.; her daughter, Kathryn Louden of Grinnell; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two stepsons, James Simpson and Howard Simpson, both of Seattle, Wash.; and five step-grandchilren.
