Bernice Marie Buchmeier, 78, of Kellogg died Friday morning at St. Francis Manor here.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ernest Elzey, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Kellogg, officiating. Organist will be Mary Richardson, and vocalist will be Katherine Erine Schaumburg.

Burial will be at Hazelwood cemetery. Should friends desirer, memorials in Mrs. Buchmeier's name may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Kellogg and left at the funeral home.

The daughter of William and Margaret Freeman Holmes, she was born Feb. 17, 1900, south of Grinnell. She moved with her family to Newton and attended public schools there. Following her graduation from normal school, she taught rural school near Kellogg.

On Feb. 17, 1921, she was married to Harry Buchmeier at her family's home in Newton. Following their marriage, the couple farmed for 40 years north of Kellogg. They moved into Kellogg in 1971.

Mrs. Buchmeier was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was active in the A.L.C.W. of the church. She was also a member of the Kellogg American Legion Auxiliary and was active in senior citizens functions.

Survivors include her husband, Harry, and one brother, Charles A. Holmes of Brainerd, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Rachel Holmes; an infant daughter; and one sister, Blanche Guthrie.
