OBITUARY
*************
MRS. W.A. HOLMES

Maggie L. Freeman was born Nov. 14, 1869, near Davenport, Scott County, Iowa.

In early childhood she came with her parents Mr. and Mrs. P.E. Freeman, to Jasper County, Iowa, living on a farm six miles northwest of Grinnell, until she was ten years of age, at which time she came to Grinnell with her parents and there attended the public schools for a number of years. Later she attended Iowa College. For a number of years she was a prominent teacher in the rural schools of Poweshiek and Jasper counties. In 1893 and 94 she attended Newton Normal College at Newton, Iowa, from which institution she graduated in the commercial department June 29, 1894. After graduation she was teaching until she was married to W.A. Holmes March 24, 1896, at Chester Center, Iowa, and for some time they made their home in or around Grinnell, Iowa. In 1900 she with her husband moved to Newton, Iowa, at which place she made her home up to three years ago, moving north and residing at Clear Lake, S. Dak., at which place she passed away after a few hours illness, Feb. 28, 1911.

Mrs. Holmes never united with any church but was a firm believer in a holy Saviour and was ever considerate of the wants of a neighbor or friend. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and leaves to mourn her loss a husband and three children: Blanche, Bernice and Charles, and many other relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted from the home of the sister of the deceased, Mrs. Fred Elmore, in Grinnell, Iowa. Elder Robert Keeton of the Baptist church, conducted the services, taking for his text, Hosea (13.11)? Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery. The pallbearers were selected from the cousins of the deceased.
