RITES TODAY FOR MR. LOYD

J. Walter Loyd, 89, of 1423 Ann St., Grinnell, died early Friday morning at St. Francis Manor.

Services for Mr. Loyd were held at 11 a.m. today at the Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. Charles Evans, pastor of the Madison Church of Christ, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Marlene Toney, organist, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert P. Brown, vocalists. Pallbearers were James Liddell, Harold Cocking, James Lang, Don Longhurst, Walter "Ward" Puls, and Robert K. Toney.

Burial was at the Pleasant View Cemetery at Cincinnati, Iowa. Should friends desire, memorials in Mr. Loyd's name may be made to the Grinnell Christian Church.

The son of James T. and Arabelle Berry Loyd, he was born July 20, 1888, in Sullivan County, Mo. He attended rural schools near his home. On Sept. 17, 1917, he was married to Mabel I. Minks at Centerville.

Following their marriage, Mr. Loyd served for seven years in the U.S. Navy. The couple later moved to a farm southeast of Malcom. They farmed there for 31 years. In 1955, they moved near Monroe until 1969, when they moved to Grinnell. Mr. Loyd was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church and the Monroe American Legion Post.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth J. (Darlene) Liddell of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; and a half-brother, Charles Martin of Las Vegas, Nev. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Glorene, who died in infancy; two brothers, Elmer and Merritt Loyd; and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Brown.
