AMELIA GARRIGAN

Mrs. Amelia Garrigan, 90, Grinnell, died Saturday afternoon at a local hospital following an illness of the last month.

Requiem High Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday from St. Mary's Catholic church with the pastor, the Rev. L.V. Kuebrich, officiating. Rosary will be recited at 8:15 tonight (Monday) from the Smith Funeral Home. Pallbearers at the services will be Alex Comerford, Francis Comerford, John Hotchkin, Bruce Colllum, Joe Hotchkin, Keith Paul.

Burial will be in Calvary cemetery (a section of Hazelwood cemetery).

The daughter of Peter Christian and Christina Schafer Schuman, she was born September 15th, 1871 in Mariposa township, Jasper county, one of a family of five children. She attended the rural schools of Jasper county and the old "Barrett school" west of Newburg.

On Oct. 28th, 1890, at Grinnell, she was united in marriage with Charles F. Garrigan and to this union were born two daughters and two sons: Mrs. I.J. (Elizabeth) Sinn of Williamsburg, Mrs. G.L. (Mary) Wells of Grinnell, Charles F. Garrigan of Grinnell, and Michael P. Garrigan, who died April 3rd, 1921.

In addition to her two daughters and son, Mrs. Garrigan is survived by nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, her husband on June 18th, 1936; four brothers and one half-brother.

Lifetime resident of Jasper and Poweshiek counties, Mrs. Garrigan was a member of St. Mary's Catholic church and had belonged to the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. She was a 50-year member of the Royal Neighbors.
