CALVIN MILLER

Calvin Miller, 78, died Thursday, June 16, at the Montezuma Senior Home.

Funeral services were conducted June 18 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. Brian Carter officiating. Organist was Alice Underwood. Pallbearers were Richard Miller, Kevin Miller, Dr. Samuel Mummey, Cletus Miller, John Mummey and Larry Steele. Honorary bearers were Ron Miller, David Miller, Gene Douglass, Ricky Miller and Melvin Miller.

Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma, with military rites conducted by the Montezuma American Legion.

The son of Cecil and LaVina Shook Miller, he was born May 8, 1916, in Union Township. He attended rural schools.

He was married to Helen Kime May 31, 1941, in Ottumwa. She died in November 1990.

Mr. Miller was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed as a lineman for Montezuma Municipal Light Co. for nearly 50 years, retiring from fulltime work in 19981 but continuing on a part-time basis. He was a member of the Montezuma Methodist Church, the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Surviving are two sons, Richard and Kevin, both of Lenexa, Kan.; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; one brother Cletus; and two sisters, Lois Douglass of Montezuma and Iona Hudnutt of Grinnell.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Montezuma United Methodist Church.
