CANCER CLAIMS LIFE OF CHARLIE FORRET,
BENEFACTOR OF BIRDS AT HOLIDAY LAKE

Funeral services were held at the Fisher Funeral Home, Adel, Sunday for Charlie A. Forret, 65, who died Thursday in Des Moines General hospital.

Forret, a resident of Holiday Lake, had been ill with cancer 1-1/2 years.

Rev. Alex Grossnickle officiated at the services and burial was in the cemetery at Waukee, Forret's hometown. Casket bearers were Floyd Spear, Carl Forret, Harry Williams, Robert DeCamp, Clarence Cram and Jerry Wolterman.

Forret operated a garage in Des Moines for many years before moving to Holiday Lake. He worked as a mechanic for Manatts, Inc., Brooklyn, until his health began failing. In the 1930's he was a state champion trap shooter and was also an avid fisherman. Another hobby of caring for birds made his Holiday Lake residence a show place of bird life during the winter months. His activities with birds were featured in a Brooklyn Chronicle feature story last year.

Survivors include his widow, Zaleine; two sons, Dean and Don; a daughter, Yvonne McCleary; a sister; five grandchildren and one great grandson.
