FRANCES E. PROVIN

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 7, at the Guernsey Cemetery for France E. Provin, 98, of Brooklyn, who died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn. The Rev. Del Dawes, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 7. The family will be present at the funeral home from noon to 1 p.m.

Frances was born on May 11, 1901, near Guernsey, to Joseph and Frances Sheda Prashak. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural schools.

She was married to Roy Provin on April 26, 1921, at Guernsey. The couple operated a general store in Millersburg and later returned to Guernsey to farm. Following the death of her husband in 1970, she lived at Belle Plaine and Victor. In 1984, she moved to Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Joe Prashak; and five sisters, Elsie Wiedow, Mame Cordes, Anna Koehn, Stella Lyman and Blanche McManigal.

She is survived by two daughters, Mardene Schultz of Grinnell and Christine Wright of Cedar Rapids; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Maynard Prashak of Cedar Falls.
