JOHN "LINC" PROVIN

John "Linc" Provin, 82, formerly of Barnes City died Jan. 11, at Eldora. Services were held Jan. 14, at Holland-Coble Funeral Home, Montezuma. Burial was in Barnes City Cemetery.

John Lincoln "Linc" Provin was born Feb. 12, 1929 to Carl and Ruby (Back) Provin near North English. He was graduated from Guernsey High School with the class of 1947.

Linc enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 where he served as chief cook in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1953.

Jan. 8, 1953, Linc was united in marriage to Janette McConnell in Spring Valley, Minn. To this union three children were born, Wesley, baby boy (died in infancy) and Karla. They later were divorced. He was married to Margaret Groette and together they had one son B.J. They later were divorced. Aug. 27, 1980, Linc married Josephine White in South English.

Linc was a carpenter and did bride work and built drive-in theaters. He also was a machinist at John Deere for 13 years. He did iron work with the Ironworkers Union Local 89. After this, he began working for Cunningham Heating and Cooling in Oskaloosa where he was injured and became disabled. He was self employed in a variety of businesses. His hobbies included fishing, dancing, collecting scrap metal and recycling. His final years were in the company of his dog, Tippy. He belonged to several different union organizations.

He is survived by his wife Josephine of Montezuma; his son Benjamin (Chris) Provin of Mason City and his daughter Karla (Marty) Loonan of Waterloo; several grandchildren; his brother Cleo (Jerilyn) Provin of Waterloo; his sisters Virginia McHenry of Tucson, Ariz., Della Phelps of Barnes City, and Elaine Musgrove of Oskaloosa.
