FREDERICK H. SELIGMAN
PASSED AWAY FRI. EVE,
A VICTIM OF HEART TROUBLE

Frederick H. Seligman, Grinnell photographer for the past twenty years, passed away Friday evening at about 9:00 o'clock, as a result of a severe heart attack.

"Cap" as Mr. Seligman was familiarly known among Grinnell friends, was born in Rouxville, S. Africa 64 years ago. At the age of 5 years, he came to the United States with his parents, and settled with them in Springfield, Illinois.

During the Spanish-American war Mr. Seligman enlisted and for a considerable number years engaged upon a military career with marked distinction, being awarded a number of medals during this time.

After completion of the World War "Cap" came to Grinnell as a photographer, eventually becoming proprietor of the Portrait Art Studio. Under his supervision, and foresight, the Portrait Art Studio was developed into one of the finest studios in this section.

Up until about the last year or so, Mr. Seligman had always enjoyed the best of health. In the early evening of last Friday he apparently was in reasonably good health. A bit later, Mr. Mullins received the urgent call from "Cap" to summon a doctor and come down at once. Mr. Mullins hurriedly complied, but upon their arrival, Mr. Seligman's condition was such that nothing could be done for him and he died almost at once.

A brother, Arthur L. Seligman of Chicago, head of the optical department of the Marshall Field store, and two nephews, LeRoy and Arthur J. Seligman, also of Chicago, drove to Grinnell Saturday.

A brief service was held at Snyder Brothers chapel Monday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Prof. J.P. Ryan. Mr. Seligman's brother accompanied the body to Chicago Monday eve., where services are to be held at a northside funeral home Wednesday afternoon, followed by burial in Rose Hill cemetery.

"Cap" Seligman was one of Grinnell's colorful figures. His background of wide and various experience reflected much in his warmth of personality. A strong exponent of fair play, "Cap" championed the cause of all projects and anyone whom he deemed merited his support. He has many Grinnell friends who regret his passing and who give him a last, heartfelt salute.
