RUBY HALBLOM

Ruby Halblom, 85, of Johnston and formerly of Newton and Montezuma died Friday, May 12, 2006, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

Funeral services for Ruby Halblom will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 16, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Casket bearers will include her grandchildren, Alex Camp, Jason Camp, Patrick Camp, Ryan Duncan, Jeremy Duncan and Larry Flaws. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Friends may call at Smith Funeral Home beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday; her family will be present to greet friends.

She was born Oct. 15, 1920, the daughter of Bert and Ida Mitchelltree Johnson on the family farm near Montezuma. She was raised near Montezuma and graduated from high school there in 1938.

She married Harold Halblom on April 13, 1944. The couple had two Children, Rebecca and Dixie.

She enjoyed country life and raising her children. She also enjoyed gardening and flowers, particularly red flowers; her favorite was impatiens.

She was an immaculate housekeeper and known for her apple pies, homemade fudge and chocolate cakes.

She enjoyed helping others and in her final days took care of her special friend, "Whitey."

She is survived by her daughters, Becky Camp of Carlisle and Dixie Smith of Peoria, Ill.; a sister, Waunita Milslagle of Grinnell; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters Jenny Bennett, Alvin "Bud" Johnson, Pauline Mitchell, Theodore Johnson, Bert Johnson Jr. and Virginia and Edward Johnson, who died in infancy.
