CECIL MCMAINS

Cecil Owen McMains, 83, died Sunday, May 28, at the New Sharon Care Center in New Sharon.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. Curtis Brouwer of the Calvary Baptist Church of Grinnell officiating. Pallbearers were Keith McMains, Kenneth McMains, David Ingram, and Lyn, Mark and Greg Wagner. Burial was in Friends Cemetery at New Sharon.

The son of Irvin Henry and Mabel Grace (Okey) McMains, he was born Sept. 18, 1905, on a farm south of Barnes City. He attended rural school.

He was married to Ruth DeWitt Feb. 16, 1930, at Oskaloosa. They farmed near What Cheer and Gibson before moving to a farm west of Deep River in 1949. Mr. McMains had farmed all of his life until his retirement.

In 1973 he moved to Sunnyview Apartments in Montezuma. He had been a resident of the New Sharon Care Center for the past 3 1/2 years.

Surviving are one son, Richard of Malcom; Robert Wagner, who was raised by Cecil and Ruth McMains; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Cleo of Deep River, Harold of Fruitland, Idaho, and Gaylen of Blairstown; and one sister, Opal Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Memorials in Mr. McMains' name may be made to Alzheimer's disease research and sent in care of the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma.
