DONALD ZOLL, 87

Donald Zoll, 87, of Grinnell, died on Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Mass of the Resurrection was held Wednesday, Jan. 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell with Rev. Nick Adam, pastor of the church, officiating. Music was provided by Marilyn Kriegel and St. Mary's Choir. Casket Bearers were Bob Boyd, Jim Danaher, Kevin Danaher, Tim Heishman, Jeff Thompson, Rod Thompson and Tom Thompson. Burial was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery in Brooklyn.

Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home.

Donald was born the son of Francis and Mary Fahey Zoll on July 31, 1924, in Waukon. He was raised in Waukon and graduated from St. Patrick's Catholic School in Waukon. Following his education he lived in Cedar Rapids and worked for the highway department.

On August 17, 1957, he was married to Betty L. Walter at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn. The couple made their home in Grinnell and he worked for John Deere Implement Company and Miracle Recreation Company. Later he was an over-the-road driver for Stadiums Unlimited and Heartland Express. He retired in the early 1990s.

Don was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell and he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed taking his children for rides across the country in his truck.

Survivors include his children, Joseph Zoll of Des Moines, Therese Hagg of Ankeny, John Zoll and Mary Ensign, both of Grinnell; four grandchildren, Rachel and Jenny Hagg and Lily and Emma Ensign; and one sister, Dona Danaher of Ankeny.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty in 2008; and one son, Christopher Zoll, in 1977.
