VELMA MCMAINS

Velma Betty McMains, 82, of rural Deep River died suddenly at her home Friday, April 22.

She was born Sept. 18, 1911 near Tilton, the daughter Eli and Sadie Moore Horn. On Dec. 3, 1939 she was united in marriage with Cleo McMains near Tilton. They farmed south of Deep River.

She attended Methodist Church in What Cheer. She was a member of Eastern Star over 50 years and was currently a member of Lafayette Chapter No. 232 at Montezuma. She was also a member of White Shrine. Velma was a member of Senior Citizens and Thornburg Garden Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Raymond Horn.

Velma is survived by her husband, Cleo; a daughter and son-in-law, Alice and Joe Bowen of Fort Madison; three grandchildren, Nichelle and her husband, Scott Kaul and Tyler and Ryan Bowen; one sister, Lela Goodwin of Wellman; one brother, Henry Horn of what Cheer, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral was held April 24 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with Rev. Vince Homan of the Methodist Church in What Cheer officiating. Eastern Star service was conducted by members of Lafayette Chapter 232 O.E.S., Montezuma.

Honorary casketbearers were Richard McMains and Gary McMains. Casketbearers were Tyler Bowen, Ryan Bowen, Scott Kaul, Harvey Horn, Dennis Ricketts, and Dick McWilliams with interment in Golden Rod cemetery, Deep River.

Memorial: Deep River Fire Department or Eastern Star.
