A.L. "JACK" MCGINNIS

A.L. "Jack" McGinnis, 70, of 401 Second Ave., Grinnell, died of a heart attack Saturday, May 5, at his home.

A graveside service was held Wednesday at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Casket bearers were his grandchildren, Doug and Jason Cupples, Jeremy, Lisa and Heather Goodrich; Dan, JaDee, Cole, Cody and Carrie Johnson; and Kendall McGinnis.

The Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit conducted military honors.

He was born June 24, 1930, in Unionville, Mo., to Clarence and Violet Wilson McGinnis. He was raised on the family farm and attended rural school in Putnam County, Mo.

He moved to Grinnell in 1946 and worked as a trucker for Halstead Trucking, Norris Trucking and Western Trucking. He also worked for various businesses in the Grinnell area, retiring in 1990.

Mr. McGinnis was a member the Grinnell American Legion and Local 147 of the Teamster's Union.

Surviving are his wife, Lela of Grinnell; two sons, Bill of Grinnell and Paul of Plano, Texas; three daughters, Sherry Roach of Kellogg, Susan Goodrich of Malcom and Debra Johnson of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Rollie of Kellogg and Jerry of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Hope Ann McGinnis; and one brother, Robert.
