Jerry McGinnis, 68, of Grinnell died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Stewart officiating. Casket bearers will be Chris Hunter, Bill McGinnis, Jim McGinnis, Scott McGinnis, Steve McGinnis and Daryl Morrison. Interment will be in Westfield Cemetery, rural Grinnell, with military rites by the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Visitation will be Thursday from 12 noon to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home with family members present from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Jerry McGinnis Memorial Fund. The son of Clarence Clayton and Violet Luella Wilson McGinnis, he was born May 23, 1936, on the family farm north of Hartford, Mo. He received his education in rural schools in the area, then helped his father on the family farm as well as assisting neighbors from time to time. He moved to Grinnell in 1957 and worked for Lang's Dairy. He entered the United States armed forces in 1957 in Unionville, Mo., and was honorably discharged in 1961.

He was united in marriage with Connie Murk on Nov. 21, 1964, at a country parsonage in Putnam County, Mo. Following their marriage they resided in Grinnell and he worked for Fisher Controls in Marshalltown for 25 years before retiring in 1995. He enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping and gardening. He also enjoyed riding in a boat with his family on the Iowa River.

He is survived by his wife Connie of Grinnell; two sons, Steve McGinnis and Scott McGinnis, both of Grinnell; two step grandchildren; and one brother, Rollie McGinnis of Kellogg. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and Jack.
