GRINNELL VETERAN DEAD.

L.P. Hanson Succumbs to Pneumonia
at Soldiers' Home.

Lauritz P. Hanson, a member of the Soldiers' Home from Grinnell since April 12, 1900, died of pneumonia Wednesday night at 9:05 at the Home hospital. Mr. Hanson was born in Denmark, Aug. 9, 1838, and enlisted in the United States navy at Boston, October 29, 1861, serving on the U.S.S. Ohio, North Carolina, and Flambeau, being discharged Oct. 26, 1863, at New York. He is survived by one relative in this country, a niece, Mrs. Anna McConaghie, 721 Pearl street, Grinnell. Mr. Hanson for years had been sergeant of Ward 4 in the main building.

Funeral services were held this forenoon at 10 o'clock from the assembly hall. Chaplain Pratt officiating. Burial was in the Home cemetery.

Mr. Hanson lived in Washington township and was a highly respected citizen of that township. He served as postmaster at Oak Grove. He was always welcomed in Grinnell by his former comrades who regret his death.
