ORVILLE HANSON

Orville L. Hanson of Van Nuys, Calif., formerly of Grinnell, died of cancer at his home Jan. 24. A memorial service was conducted Jan. 28.

The son of Harold B. and Cecile Hanson, he was born near Grinnell in 1930. He attended Grinnell schools and graduated from high school in 1948. He worked for Cunningham Drug while in school. After graduation he attended radio school and worked at a Cedar Rapids radio station.

He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, then attended the University of California at Los Angeles. He was golf pro at Brentwood Country Club while attending U.C.L.A. and following his graduation.

In 1967 he went to work for the Department of Water and Power. At the time of his death he was head of the department's Meter Test Laboratory.

Surviving are his widow; one son, Robert; a daughter, Tracie Kennedy; a brother, Harold Jr. of Tucson, Ariz.; and six sisters, Naomi Gregson of Cedar Rapids, Iona Wollam of Grinnell Arlyne Arnold of Cedar Rapids, Marjorie Hull of Las Vegas, Nev., Carol Burnett of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Beverly King of Charlottesville, Va.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Roberta Pierce.
