JAS. M. SHIELDS
CALLED BY DEATH

James M. Shields, aged 73, and for over fifty-five years a resident of Grinnell died at his home, 1130 Spencer, Friday evening, from heart trouble and complications.

He is survived by his widow and three brothers, Ira of Kellogg, Veranda of Colorado and Jesse who lives in North Dakota and two sisters, Mrs. Alice Huff and Rose Shields who live in North Dakota. He also has a nephew, Harry Dunn, of this city.

Mr. Shields was well known in Grinnell and the neighboring country for he has spent the greater portion of his life working on farms in this vicinity. Mr. Shields became blind twenty years ago but had kept at his work, and gained the admiration of his friends by his ability to make the most of life though afflicted.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at the Methodist church with Rev. A.B. Cadwell in charge. Burial was at Hazelwood. The pall bearers were W.H. Alley, Frank Black, Norman Pilgrim, Dean Eichhorn, D.M. Sylvester and George Sampson.

Singers were Mrs. A.B. Cadwell and Miss Flora Walker.
