ALVIN SHIELDS

Alvin Shields was born in Davis County, Iowa, August 21, 1869. He moved to Grinnell with his parents in 1874 and resided in and around Grinnell until about 10 years ago, when he moved to Rapid City, S. Dak., and resided at that place until the time of his death. He was killed by accident while on duty for the C.&N.W. R.R. Co. in Rapid City, Dec. 24, 1917. He was aged 48 years, 4 months and 3 days.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, mother, four brothers and three sisters, all present at the funeral but one sister and his wife. Those present were his mother and Brother Jesse, from Rapid City, S. Dak.; F.W. Shields, from Olathe, Colo.; Rose Baker, Wriste, Alberta, Can.; Ira Shields and family, of Kellogg; James Shields, of Grinnell; "Shep" Marvin, of Brookings, S. Dak.; Miss Alice Dunn, of Rapid City, and other relatives and friends from around and in Grinnell.

The funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Fred Elmore, Dec. 31, 1917, conducted by Elder R.L. Keeton.
