Funeral services were Monday morning, Jan. 12, in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn for Dennis E. Urfer, 54, of Brooklyn, who died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, in Grinnell Regional Medical Center following a short illness.

The Rev. Ronald Van Heukelom, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn, officiated. Casket bearers were Kenneth Brannian, Steven Heck, Mick Clemens, Jim Urfer, Donald Urfer and Lynn Smith. Burial was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

Dennis Eugene Urfer, son of Paul Gordon Urfer and Irma Pearl Rauch Urfer, was born Nov. 28, 1943, in Grinnell.

He received his education in the Brooklyn school. He was employed by Ken Brannian at his farm near Brooklyn, and at Brooklyn 80 Implement and Automotive.

Dennis was married to Kathryn Louise Risner from September of 1966 to February of 1976, and they are the parents of one daughter, Diane.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn and was a former member of the Brooklyn Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors are his daughter, Diane Simpson, and her husband, Steven, of Haverhill; one sister, Sarah Heck, of Sylacauga, Ala.; and one brother, Richard Urfer of Montezuma.

A memorial fund has been established.
