DOROTHY HARRIETT BERRY

Dorothy H. Berry, 87, of Malcom died April 20, 2016, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 25, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Brian Chitwood of the Madison Church of Christ, near Brooklyn, officiating. Pallbearers will be Brad DeLong, Tim Brown, Scott Shook, Kurt Berry, Kole Berry, Brian DeLong, Tony Lang, Randall Paul and Anthony Engelbart. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 24 at the Smith Funeral Home, with family present from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Dorothy was born November 11, 1928, on her family farm, near Newburg, the daughter of Earl Clyde and Frances Greene Foster. She was raised near Newburg and later Kellogg and attended school in the Kellogg School District.

On July 10, 1953, she was untied in marriage with Gene Berry, at the Chester Church in Newburg. The couple lived in several communities including Grinnell, Kellogg, Searsboro and Malcom. They moved to Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on February 9, 2016.

Throughout her life, Dorothy was employed at several local businesses including, Maytag in Newton, P & M Café in Grinnell, Malzuma Inn and Grinnell Regional Medical Center. She retired from the hospital in the mid 1980's.

Dorothy enjoyed Flea Markets and collection salt & pepper shakers, Mt. Pleasant buttons, dolls and ink pens. She also enjoyed cross-word puzzles, crocheting and cooking, she wasn't afraid to try new recipes! She never forgot a family birthday and one of her goals was to see every grandchild graduate from high school. Her greatest love was for her family and she was very devoted to her husband.

Survivors include her husband, Gene of Montezuma; seven children, Verl (Barb) Shook of Montour, Vern (Grace) Shook of Missouri Valley, Lorna (Jim) Paisley of Sturgis, South Dakota, Joyce (Ed) Brown of Malcom, Brenda (Mark) Martin of Grinnell, Glen Berry of Brooklyn and Pam (Jeff) Paul of Grinnell; one brother, Charlie (Margaret Repp) Foster of Newton; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson; and four brothers and one sister.
