VIRGIL TONE RITES TUESDAY

Virgil K. Tone, 60, of Rte. 2, Gilman, died Saturday, Sept. 26, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Miller, pastor of the Gilman Community United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Gilman.

The son of Robert and Fannie Frankforth Tone, he was born on May 30, 1927, in Kansas City, Mo. He was raised in Gilman and graduated from Gilman High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On March 21, 1950, he was married to Margaret Gary in Robinsdale, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Tone farmed west of Gilman following their marriage.

He was a member of the Gilman Community United Church of Christ, the Ward-Paul American Legion Post of Gilman and the Forty and Eight of Marshalltown.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; one daughter, Julie Ann Peddle of San Diego, Calif.; one son, Robert A. of Des Moines; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
