DANIEL GEORGE

Daniel George, 94, Chariton, died Friday, July 13, at the Lucas County Care Facility of a stroke.

Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, July 17, at the Fielding Funeral Home in Chariton with burial in the Chariton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

He was born March 10, 1896, in New York to Daniel and Christena George. In 1923 he moved to Chariton from Russell and in 1923 he began work for the CB&Q Railroad, serving as roundhouse foreman for 38 years and retiring in 1961.

He is survived by his wife Vergie whom he married June 15, 1918, in Chariton; two sons Dwight George, Grinnell, and Paul George, Ottumwa; one daughter Ruth Johnson, Williamson; one sister Margaret Farnsworth, Shortsville, N.Y.; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.

GEORGE

Daniel George died on July 13, 1990 at the Lucas county Health Center at the age of 94. He was born to Daniel George and Christena Ebinger on March 10, 1897, in New York City, N.Y.

He married Vergie B. Dyer on June 25, 1918, in Chariton. Four children were born to this marriage.

As a young boy, he worked as a farm hand and upon marriage he engaged in farming south of Russell. Shortly after the farm house burned down, he moved his family to Chariton and on that same day, Feb. 19, 1923, he started working for the C.B. & Q. Railroad.

He is survived by his widow, Vergie, who is at the Chariton Manor; two sons, Dwight of Grinnell and Paul of Ottumwa; one daughter, Margaret Farnsworth of Shortsville, N.Y.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Due to ill health he retired from the railroad as round house foreman on Aug. 5, 1961, after 38 years of working.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret; a brother, George Rutan; a daughter-in-law, Martha George; and by a grandson, Robert George.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 17, 1990, at the Fielding Funeral Home, with the Rev. Silas Andersen officiating. Serving as bearers were Willard Dyer, Coy Dyer, Melvin Grismore, Ivan Reynolds, Herman Johnson and Eugene Johnson. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
