LUELLA I. MILLS

Luella I. Mills, 88, of Coon Rapids, Minn., formerly of Malcom, died June 29, 2003.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home. A time of visitation and coffee will be held following the memorial. Burial will follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Memorials may be made to the Ivy Hill Cemetery Association.

She was born Oct. 30, 1914, in Malcom to Laird and Ortensa Woods. She graduated from Malcom High School in 1932, then attended Cornell College in Mount Vernon for two years before attending Iowa Beauty School in Des Moines. After receiving her license, she opened a beauty salon on Main Street in Malcom.

On Nov. 11, 1939, she was married to Manley Mills. She was an organist, Sunday School superintendent, choir member and other activities of the Malcom Methodist Church. She also was active in the Community Club, school activities and served as president of the Malcom School board. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, in 1952 serving as Grand Adah of the Grand Lodge Iowa and at the time of her death was a 70-year member of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Lotz and son Larry Mills, both of Blaine, Minn.; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Manley.
