LORA MILLS, 95, DIES SATURDAY

Lora Ladd Mills, 95, died Saturday morning of a heart ailment at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Beatrice and Joseph Wall, with whom she had made her home the past three years.

Services were held Wednesday morning at Dunn's Funeral Home in Des Moines with burial in Glendale Cemetery.

Mrs. Mills was born in 1888 in Sheldon, the daughter of Judge Scott Mason Ladd, later a member and chief justice of the Iowa Supreme Court, and Emma Cromer Ladd. She attended Grinnell College where she was a charter member of the Girls' Glee Club and graduated with the class of 1909. She then attended the New England Conservatory of Music, Boston, Mass., and studied music in Berlin, Germany, for two years.

She had lived in Des Moines most of her life where she taught music at Drake University and sang in musical groups, church choirs and on the Chautauqua Circuit. She was a member of the Treble Clef Club, Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ, P.E.O., and past president of the Des Moines Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bert N. Mills, a Grinnell College graduate with the class of 1906, and a long-time secretary of Bankers Life Company; her brothers, Judge Loy Ladd of the Iowa district court in Des Moines and Mason Ladd, for many years dean of the University of Iowa Law School; and two sisters.

She is survived by two daughters, Marian Galenbeck, Des Moines, and Mrs. Wall; a son, Scott A. Mills, Arlington, Va.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to her church or to Grinnell College.
