DONALD L. CRIDER

Donald L. Crider, 71, of Montezuma, died at his home suddenly June 28, 1988.

He was born on June 16, 1917, at Brooklyn, the son of Louis and Lena Height Crider. He graduated from Montezuma High in 1934. On Sept. 29, 1940, he was united in marriage with Frances Newman at Lancaster, Mo. To this union two sons were born.

He served his country during World War II in the Army Engineer Corps. They have spent most of their married life in Montezuma. He was a Registered Land Surveyor and worked in the Poweshiek County Engineer's office.

After his retirement, he continued his own business as a private land surveyor. He was also associated with Watts Funeral Home.

He was an active member of the First Christian Church at Montezuma, where he served on the Board of Trustees and was also an Elder. He was a Mason and member of the Lafayette Lodge No. 52 AF & AM, Montezuma; KAABA Shrine, Davenport and Poweshiek County Shrine Club. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, Aztec Lodge No. 238, Montezuma, and was also a member of the Blakely-Stevens American Legion Post 169.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Maxine Crider, Vada Tinkle and Arlene Purdum.

Donald is survived by his wife, Frances of Montezuma; two sons and their wives: Larry and Laura of Naples, Florida, and Dale and Cyndy of Wilmette, Ill.; one grandson, Nicholas; one sister, Phyllis Sanders of What Cheer; and two brothers: Maynard Crider of Paradise, Calif.; and Keith Crider of Kansas City, Mo.; and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services were July 1 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with Rev. Terri Gomez of First Christian Church, Montezuma, officiating. Honorary Casket Bearers were Bevan Wilcox and Raymond McClure. Casket Bearers were Harlan Millang, R.V. (Dick) Bowers, Lawrence Fleming, Duane Phelps, Kenneth Harper, Jack VanCleave. Military Graveside Rites were by members of Blakely-Stevens Legion Post 169. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma. Memorial: First Christian Church, Montezuma.
