MR. ALEXANDER RITES TUESDAY

John W. Alexander, 88, of Grinnell died Sunday morning at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Keith Briggs, pastor of the Grinnell First Friends Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Ted Criswell, John Hotchkin, Don Purdum, James C. McNally, David Schinckel and Ray Schinckel. Burial was at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of George and Martha Jane Ferrell Alexander, he was born Dec. 10, 1891, near Monticello, Ky. He moved to the Kellogg area in 1911 and worked as a farm hand. He was married to Sara Fannie Dobbs at Monticello. The couple had one son.

Mr. and Mrs. Alexander came to Grinnell in 1922, where he was employed for 30 years with the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railroad as a sectionman. Following the death of his first wife, he was married to Bessie Allee at Grinnell.

He is survived by his son, Marvin Alexander of Grinnell; a granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Dora Lee Dobbs of Iowa City. He was preceded in death by his parents, both wives, four brothers and two sisters.
