TAMMY LEMKE

Tammy Lemke, 45, of Grinnell died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at her home.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, Dec. 19, at Smith Funeral Home with John Epperson, pastor of Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Honorary bearers were Anthony and Justin Lemke and Joe and Kyle Slings. Memorials may be made to the Tammy Lemke Memorial Fund.

The daughter of Louise Mae Hoffsteatter and James William Lemke, she was born July 9, 1962, in Iowa City. She was raised in Grinnell and received her education here. Following her education, she was employed at St. Francis Manor and DeLong Sportswear. She took some time away from her employment to raise her children, then in the late 1990s she was employed for several years at HW Brand Equipment. She retired in 2000 for reasons of health.

She enjoyed arts and crafts and working with beads. She also loved animals and riding horses, and had a passion for collecting lighthouses, writing poetry and taking pictures of her family.

She is survived by two sons, Nick Lemke and Nathan Haines, both of Grinnell; her mother and stepfather, Louise and Willard Lippmann of Grinnell; two sisters, Christy Lemke of Grinnell and Susan Slings of Newton; one brother, Steven Lemke of Nashville, Tenn., and one grandson, Chase Lemke. She was preceded in death by her father.
