NICHOLAS J. LEMKE

Nicholas J. Lemke, 28, of Grinnell, died Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in Grinnell.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 10, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. John Reynolds, pastor of the Malcom Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation was held at the funeral home on Thursday, with the family present to greet friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to the Nicholas J. Lemke Memorial Fund, sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.smithfh.com.

Nicholas James Lemke was born the son of Owen Ruch and Tammy Lemke on Sept. 12, 1983, in Iowa City. He was raised and educated in Grinnell.

On April 19, 2008, he was united in marriage with Veronica Manatt at the Malcom Presbyterian Church in Malcom, and the couple had two sons. Nick was employed at Jeld-Wen Windows and Miraco in Grinnell.

Nick's family and friends were his life. He dearly loved his two boys and cherished the time he had with them. He was an active learner and had recently enrolled at Iowa Valley Community College to further his education. He enjoyed playing basketball and playing games on his X Box.

Nick is survived by his wife, Veronica Lemke of Malcom; his sons, Chase and Chance Lemke of Malcom; his brother, Nathan Haines of Ottumwa; several step-brothers and sisters; his maternal grandmother, Louise Lippman of Grinnell; and his aunt, Christy Lemke of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
