FRANCIS L. CLINE, 89

Francis L. Cline, 89, of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, January 20, 2004, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

Services were held Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn, where the Rev. Richard Okumu officiated. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn.

The casket bearers were Jeff Rhinehart, Chris Rhinehart, Curtis Miles, Corey Miles, Casey Miles, Greg Cline and Seth Cline.

The honorary casket bearers were Christine Miles, Lisa Flamme, Julie Bracy, Amy Van Ersvelde, Paula White and Heather Yoakum.

A memorial fund has been established.

Francis Lloyd Cline, the son of George and Margaret (Kriegel) Cline, was born January 2, 1915, on a farm in Poweshiek County, northwest of Brooklyn. He received his education in a rural school. He farmed with his parents until his marriage to Ferne Irene Smith on January 29, 1941, at St. Patrick's Church in Tama. The parents of five children, they farmed northwest of Brooklyn until their retirement.

Francis was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Darold, Harold and Joseph; and a sister, Dorothy.

Francis is survived by his wife, Ferne; two sons, Larry Cline of Brooklyn, and George and his wife, Jane, of Brooklyn; three daughters, Elizabeth Rhinehart and husband, Paul, of Brooklyn, Patricia Miles and husband, Dennis, of Atkins, and Brenda Cline and her special friend, Scott Johnson, of Grinnell; three brothers, Manus Cline of Grinnell, Leonard Cline of Guernsey and Paul Cline of Brooklyn; three sisters, Mildred Moyer and Evelyn Wiley, both of Grinnell, and Bernadette Cline of Brooklyn; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
