DARRELL JOHN IVERSON

Darrell John Iverson, 75, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Grinnell, died Aug. 5, 2006, in Austin.

A service of witness to the resurrection was held Aug. 9 in Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church in Austin with the Rev. Larry Coulter, pastor of the church, officiating. Words of celebration were given by his son Brent Iverson of Austin and special music was by his son Jon Iverson of Atascadero, Calif. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Austin.

He wss born Aug. 16, 1930, in Grinnell, the son of Elmer and Ada Iverson. He graduated from Grinnell College where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He was commissioned an air force officer with the nuclear division of the Strategic Air Command during the Korean Conflict. He was married in Denver, Colo., in 1956 to Jane Ardyth Densford at Lowry Air Force Base. Following his service in the Air Force he continued his education at the University of Michigan and Stanford University in California, earning advanced engineering degrees and membership in Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Xi honor societies. He worked as a software engineer, project manager and systems engineer at ESL Inc. in Sunnyvale, Calif., including on a total of 28 defense projects in over 25 years.

He and his wife retired to Sedona, Ariz., in 1991, where he taught algebra and computer science at Yavapai College in Clarkdale, Ariz. They moved to Austin in 1998.

He is survived by his wife Jane; two sons Jon of Atascadero, Calif., and Brent of Austin, Texas, and four granddaughters.
