LAWRENCE IVERSON, 89

Lawrence Iverson, 89, of Grinnell, died Dec. 6, 2012, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with the Rev. John Epperson of Grinnell, officiating. Pallbearers were Daryl Bennett, Larry and Roger Iverson, Keith and Paul Johnson, Bruce Burnham, Dennis, Richard and David Willer. Honorary bearers were Brad Iverson, Mandy Diggins, Kim Iverson, Shelly Davis, Lisa Klenk and Ryan and Megan Iverson. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marshalltown.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell High School FFA or the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation.

Lawrence was born July 31, 1923, in Grinnell, the son of Christopher and Agnetta Christianson Iverson. He was raised on the family farm near Grinnell and attended rural school near his home and later Grinnell High School.

On May 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Gladys Burnham, at the Friends Church in Grinnell. The couple lived on various farms in Poweshiek and Tama Counties before settling on their current farm southeast of Grinnell in 1982. He had been a resident of St. Francis Manor in Grinnell since November 29, 2012.

He was a member of the Farm Bureau and Malcom Co-op.

Lawrence held a great love of family and enjoyed sharing his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his life on the farm and the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, and dancing to country music.

Survivors include one daughter Linda (Ron) Davis of Grinnell; two sons, Ronald (Marcia) Iverson and Leslie (Teresa) Iverson of Grinnell; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Iverson of Grinnell; seven grandchildren, Shelly Davis, Lisa (Davis) Klenk, Brad Iverson, Mandy (Iverson) Diggins, Kimberly Iverson, Ryan Iverson and Megan Iverson; and five great-grandchildren, Emily, Grace, Keaton, Karson and Kinley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2009; one brother, Arthur Iverson; and two sisters, Esther Bennett and Stella Johnson.
