CHARLES W. VINCENT

Charles W. Vincent, 81, of Ladora, a former Searsboro High School principal, died of a heart ailment Tuesday, May 15, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at the Ladora United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Barrick officiating. Organist was Debbie Chittick. Pallbearers were Ed Begunck, Leon "Bud" Fuller, Gary Kruse, Jerry Tanner, Wayne Shaull and Harold Tanner. Burial was in Ladora Cemetery, with the McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home of Victor in charge of arrangements.

Memorials in Mr. Vincent's name may be made to the Ladora United Methodist Church.

The son of Jefferson Davis and Nellie Mae White Vincent, he was born Oct. 4, 1908, in Searsboro. He was raised in that community and graduated from Searsboro High School in 1926. He received his degree in education from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and did post-graduate work at the University of Iowa and the University of Chicago.

He was married to Glendora Van Oenen Dec. 24, 1935, in Lancaster, Mo.

Mr. Vincent was involved in education for over 41 years. He began his teaching and coaching career at Dunbar High School and later was a principal and coach at Searsboro and Atkins. He served as a superintendent at Arcadia, Cedar, Green Mountain, Ladora and Mid-Prairie of Wellman.

He was a member of the Ladora United Methodist Church and the Iowa State Education Association.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Thomas of Las Cruses, N.M.; and three grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alva and Harold; and one sister, Roxanne Sheehy.
