PAUL FRANK, FORMER
TIGER COACH, DIES

Word has been received here of the death of Paul J. Frank, former Grinnellian, in El Paso, Texas on August 22.

Frank coached football and basketball at Grinnell High School from 1929 to 1939.

Early this summer, Frank underwent surgery for what proved to be inoperable cancer. Services will be held Friday, with burial at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.

Frank had been teaching in the El Paso high school system for the past 10 years. Prior to that time, he was in business in Iowa City.

His wife, who also taught in the local high school, lives at 3432 Ruthergten, El Paso, Texas 79925.

PAUL J. FRANK, 70,
SERVICES FRIDAY

Funeral services for Paul J. Frank, former Grinnell high school basketball coach, were held Friday in El Paso, Texas. Mr. Frank died Tuesday, Aug. 22, after a short illness.

He was born in Maquoketa, Ia., Feb. 26, 1897. He served in World War I in the 109th Engineers Regiment. He graduated from the State University of Iowa in 1924, where he played football under Howard Jones.

Mr. Frank coached in Fairbanks, Ia., Riceville, Ia., Independence, Ia., and Grinnell. He coached here from 1930 to 1939, and his 1935 basketball team placed second in the Iowa State Basketball tournament. He was also a businessman in Iowa City for 17 years.

He is survived by his widow Florence; daughters Polly Frank, Mrs. Dean Johnson, and Mary Frank; a son, Owen; a brother, O.L. Frank; and two grandsons.

The family requests that donations be made to the cancer fund.
