JOHN MURPHY DIES
HERE WEDNESDAY

John Murphy was born near St. Johns, New Brunswick, in October 1847, and died at Grinnell, Iowa, at nine o'clock, Wednesday evening, August 21, 1929 in the eighty-second year of his age. When a small boy he came with his people to Princeton, Illinois where they lived for four years. They then moved to Poweshiek Co., Iowa and settled on a farm near Malcom. He lived the greater part of his life in Poweshiek County and has been a resident of Grinnell for fourteen years. In 1868 he was united in marriage with Matilda A. Meredith. To this union were born nine children, six of whom have passed on before.

Those left to mourn his loss are his wife, two sons, George R. Murphy and Dana C. Murphy, one daughter, Miss Nora Murphy. One brother, who lives in Hoehne, Col., five grandchildren and one great-grand child also survive him. Mr. Murphy had been a great sufferer for many years and through it all was very patient and cheerful. He was a kindly man to his family and friends and ever showed an interest in the welfare of others.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at the home of his son, Dana, conducted by the Rev. George Blagg. Burial was made in the Malcom cemetery.
