EMMA PAGEL

Emma Pagel, 94, of Grinnell died Monday, May 30, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sam Reaves officiating. Organist was Naomi Reaves.

Pallbearers were Allard Jacobsen, Gary Pagel, Richard Pagel, Dean Roth, CLayton Tiedeman and Frank Wilcox. Honorary bearers were Keith Davis and Bill, Jack, Jim, John and Richard Phipps. Burial was in Oakhill Cemetery, Tama.

The daughter of William Henry and Frances Josephine Marshek Betz, she was born March 27, 1900, near Chelsea. She later moved with her family to Tama County where she attended school.

She was married to Ward Leo Pagel July 16, 1919, in Tama. They lived in Marshalltown for a year before moving to a farm south of Tama. They moved to Redding in 1955, then moved to Grinnell in 1960.

While living in Grinnell, Mrs. Pagel worked at the Monroe Hotel, Dixie Inn and Four Winds Motel. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the Victor Grange.

She is survived by eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two children, Lucille "Peg" See and Merl Leo "Bud" Pagel; four brothers, Frank, Fred, John and George Betz; three sisters, Anna Martin, Mary Davis and Blanche Bailey; and a great-grandson.

Memorials in her name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
