William Frederick Vogel was born Sept. 14, 1859 in Dehausen, Waldeck, Germany. He came to America in 1874 and lived in Davenport, Ia. for four years. Then he clerked in a general for five years in Walcott, Ia. and on the 20th of Sept., 1883 he arrived in Malcom with his bride, who was Louisa Schwarting of Walcott, Ia. Mr. Vogel was reared in the faith of the German Evangelical Lutheran Church of which he was a member and he also belonged to the Royal Arch Masons, Modern Woodmen and the Knights of Pythias. He always was a member of the board of education.
