LAWRENCE J. VOGEL

Rev. Lawrence J. Vogel, 82, of Brooklyn, died at his home Friday, July 6. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick Catholic Church. A vigil service was held at 7 p.m. Monday led by Rev. Fr. Joseph Rogers, pastor of St. Patrick. The Mass of Christian burial was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10. The celebrant was The Most Rev. Gerald O'Keefe, D.D., Bishop of the Davenport Diocese. The organist was Mrs. Marilyn Kriegel and special selections were by St. Patrick Choir. Casket bearers were Richard Vogel, David Vogel, Jim Vogel, Greg Vogel, Larry Vogel and Mike Vogel. Interment was in Calvary cemetery.

The Nevenhoven Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Joseph Vogel, son of Nicholas Vogel and Elizabeth Maschino Vogel, was born on a farm eight miles north of Malcom Oct. 15, 1907.

He received his education in a rural school and was a graduate of Malcom High School. He was a graduate of St. Ambrose College, Davenport, and St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. Rev. Vogel was ordained into the priesthood in 1936 at Davenport. He served parishes in Fort Madison, Davenport, Ottumwa Heights College, Ottumwa, Naval Air Station at Ottumwa, Nichols, Wapello, Burlington, Mount Pleasant and Keokuk. He moved to Brooklyn when he retired.

Rev. Vogel was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Surviving are three brothers, Frank Vogel of Malcom, Charles Vogel of Grinnell and Louis Vogel of Riceville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Elizabeth Kohrman and two brothers, Victor and Raymond.
