HAROLD W. STARNES

Harold Wesley Starnes, son of James Christian and Alta Starnes, was born at Laurel, Iowa, November 24, 1907. He grew to manhood and graduated from public schools at Laurel, and established himself on a farm near the place of his birth.

He was married to Anna Wilmena Bach in Laurel on March 27, 1927, and seven children were born to the home. Mr. and Mrs. Starnes farmed near Laurel until about 1940 when they moved to Grinnell and he became associated with the Standard Oil Company.

The deceased united with the church when a young man, and through his life enjoyed people and loved his family.

While working briefly in Newton, Iowa in1953, he suffered a heart condition which restricted his activities. Only last July he became associated with his son, Dean, in the Colonial Service Statiion on 6th Avenue.

Death came suddenly on Feb. 9, 1956. He was 48 years of age.

Surviving are Anna Starnes; his seven children, Donald of Grinnell, Jacilyn (Mrs. Kenneth Siepmann), Dallas Center, Iowa, and Jeanette, Dean, Carole Lee, Richard Lee, and Dennis Dee, of the home; four grandchildren; and one brother, Forrest Starnes of Marshalltown; other relatives and many friends.
