MRS. CHRIS LENDER RITES HELD TUESDAY

Rites for Mrs. Chris (Dorothy) Lender were held at the Steffy Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, with the Rev. Martin Gruneich officiating. Miss Alice Underwood was the organist.

Burial was at Jackson Township Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Glen Fleming, Walter Ling, Bob Lender, Harold Busby, Alvie Johnson and Al Johnson.

Mrs. Lender, 75, passed away in Grinnell on Friday, July 11.

The daughter of Mary and Bion Martin, she was born near Griswold in Cass County, Iowa, on March 7, 1894. She started to school at Atlantic, Iowa, and the family moved to Clinton, Mo., where she completed her education. The family later moved to Milford, Iowa, where she was employed.

On Nov. 15, 1915, she was united in marriage with Chris Lender at Rockwell City, Iowa, and to this union six children were born. They lived and farmed in the Deep River and Montezuma communities.

After the death of her husband in 1943, she maintained her home and cared for her children. For the past eight years she has lived in Grinnell.

Survivors include her children, Opal Duncan and Mary Bortell of Grinnell, Mellisa Mitchell of Beaumont, Tex., Eloise Staggs of Yakima, Wash., Martin of Rockford, Ill., Minnie O'banna of Oskaloosa; 25 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Leora Ling of Barnes City and Mrs. Maud Babb of Cambridge, Minn.
