JEANNETTE "JAN" LENDER

Mrs. Jeannette "Jan" Lender, 68, of Brooklyn, died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center, Grinnell.

Funeral services for Jan Lender were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2001, at the Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn. Rev. David Rogula officiated; Marilyn Kriegel was the organist. "The Lord's Prayer" was the special selection. Flower attendants were Doris Manatt, Doris Reida, Shirley Nieman and Dorothy McConnell.

Honorary casket bearers were Taralyn and Kelby Taylor and Lindsey, Logan and Landon Seye. Casket bearers were Steve Plants, Bill Plants, Dick Plants, Dennis Plants, Ronald Plants and Del Miller. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

Alta Jeannette Starnes Lender, daughter of Harold W. Starnes and Anna W. Bach Starnes, was born Feb. 9, 1933, in Laurel, Ia. She received her education at Grinnell High School, graduating in 1952. Afterward, she worked for GTE for a short time.

On Aug. 24, 1958, Jan was married to Don Kenneth Lender at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home in Brooklyn and were the parents of three children: Kenneth, Dawnette and Sheryal. Don died on Oct. 16, 1990.

Mrs. Lender was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and the Brooklyn-Victor Country Club. She was active in establishing the Brooklyn Activity Center. She enjoyed playing golf and spending time with her grandkids.

Her parents, her husband, and her son, Kenneth Dale, preceded her in death.

Surviving are two daughters and their husbands Dawnette and Greg Taylor of Brooklyn and Sheryal and Steve Seye of Brooklyn; two sisters, Jackie Siepmann of Des Moines and Carol Evans of Searsboro; four brothers, Don Starnes of Grinnell, Dean Starnes of Denver, Colo., Richard Starnes of England and Dennis Starnes of Grinnell; and five grandchildren, Taralyn and Kelby Taylor and Lindsey, Logan and Landon Seye.
