SRVICES HELD

Mrs. Helen G. Gross, 62, wife of Kenneth Gross of 209 Clay St., Brooklyn, died following a short illness at 7:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

The daughter of Charlie and Amy Hakeman Sherwood, she was born June 24, 1910, at Hartwick. She attended rural schools and Hartwick High School.

She was married to Kenneth Gross July 11, 1921, at Hartwick. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Hartwick, Mason City, Grinnell, Victor, and Brooklyn. Mrs. Gross was formerly the operator of an ice cream store in Brooklyn.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, WSCS, Brooklyn BBB, Emanon, and a former member of the Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband Kenneth; one son, Clifford Edward of Gladbrook; three daughters, Mrs. John (Gayle) Griffin of Dysart, Mrs. James (Jacqueline) Schneekloth of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Gerald (Joyce) Roshek of Altoona; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Patten of Belle Plaine and Mrs. Norris Anderson of Belle Plaine; three brothers, Howard Sherwood of Hartwick, Edward Sherwood of Dike, and Richard Sherwood of Belle Plaine; and 11 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandson; one sister, Mrs. Iola Lender; and one brother, Gerald Sherwood.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gross were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, with the Rev. J. Arthur Eveland, pastor, officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ed Bartachek. Pallbearers were Jim Sherwood, Daryl Sherwood, Steve Sherwood, Dean Patten, Philip Yount, and Jerry Anderson. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Maynard McLain, Mrs. Walter Scott, and Daryl Goodlow, and honorary flower attendant was Mrs. Pauline Andrews.

Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery, Brooklyn, with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
