STEVEN J. LOWE, 58

Steven J. Lowe, Sr., age 58, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at his home in Brooklyn following a brief illness. Memorial services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 29, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, with the Rev. John Dodds officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. A memorial fund has been established.

He is survived by his father, Norval (Donna) of Chariton; a son, Steven Lowe II (Amanda) of Brooklyn; two daughters, Stacy Butler (Earl) of Grinnell and Sheri Ellis (Brandon) of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and five grandchildren, Caleb and David (fiancé Lindsey Lash) Butler of Grinnell, Grace and Elizabeth Ellis of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Owen Kriegel of Brooklyn.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Blanche; and his step-father, Robert Bryan.

Steven James Lowe was born Nov. 21, 1951, in Grinnell, the son of Norval and Blanche Opal Hartzel Lowe. He graduated from Grinnell High School in 1970, and married Emily Ann Swatosh at the First Friends Baptist Church in Grinnell in 1972. The couple later divorced. Steve was employed by McNally's and then Hy-Vee grocery stores, Kum & Go in Des Moines, Meskwaki Bingo and Casino as a security guard, and was working as a telemarketer for Capitol Resources at the time of his death.

Steve loved to play games with his grandchildren, especially cribbage, golf, football, bowling, and Monopoly. He also enjoyed barbequing with the family and sitting around the campfire socializing.
