RITES MONDAY

Max L. Jones, 64, of the Westfield community died of heart and kidney ailments Thursday evening, June 20, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiated. Organist was Alice Renaud.

Pallbearers were Dennis Anderson, Richard Blankenfeld, Shawn Collum, Gary Jones, Jim Jones and Perry Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Ernest Blankenfeld, Tim Collum, Greg Jones, Darrell Keenan, Glenn Leggett and Robert Wilson. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Max Jones Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Ernest Benjamin and Gittallie Larson Jones, he was born on July 29, 1920, in Grinnell. He attended Grinnell schools.

On Dec. 16, 1939, he was married to Eva Dorothy Bell in Grinnell. Mr. Jones was employed for 32 years as an engineer in the physical plant at Grinnell College. He also raised Labrador dogs and Walker coon hounds.

Survivors include his wife, Eva; eight children, Carol Wilson of Kellogg, Dorothy Jones of Newton, Richard of Williamsburg, Kathleen Collum of Grinnell, Connie Blankenfeld of Marshalltown, Max of Marshalltown, Kristine Collum of Grinnell and Pauline Brown of Grinnell; 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his step-mother, Clara Jones of Grinnell; and three brothers, Alfred E. of Searsboro, Kenneth L. of Grinnell and Ernest J. of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dorothy C. Mithelman.
