EVA D. JONES

Eva D. Jones, 88, of Grinnell died Sept. 29, 2009, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 2, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Saxton officiating. Pianist was Pat Saxton and vocalist was Barbara Chitwood. Casket bearers were Jason Jones, Andrew Hauersperger, Justin Jones, Travis Reilly, Trevor Collum and Jon Grobe. Burial followed in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Eva was born the daughter of Oliver and Lillie Walkup Bell on Feb. 13, 1921, southwest of Grinnell in the Westfield neighborhood. She attended Westfield school and church, later, the family moved to Newburg and then to Grinnell, where she graduated with the class of 1939. On Dec. 16, 1939, she married Max Jones. In 1962, they moved to an acreage southwest of Grinnell. She moved to town following her husband's death in 1985.

Eva enjoyed gardening, growing plants and flowers, embroidering and cross stitching. She took great pride in raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.

She is survived by her eight children, Carol Wilson of Grinnell, Dorothy Jones of Newton, Richard Jones of Williamsburg, Kathy Collum of Grinnell, Connie Blankenfeld of Ames, Max Jones of Marshalltown, Kris Collum of Grinnell and Paula Jones of Grinnell; one sister, Arlene Rutherford of Newton; 15 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, LuVerne, Clarence, George and Dale Bell; sisters, Wilma Garwood, Minnie Green, her twin Elva Adams, Evelyn Simpson and Bernice Pearce; one grandson; and one great-great-granddaughter.
