DONALD L. POWELL, 66

Donald Lee Powell, 66, of Lake Ponderosa, Montezuma, died early Sunday morning, February 16, 1997, at his home.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. at Watts Funeral Home. Rev. David Green, Grinnell Regional Hospice, will officiate. The body has been cremated and there will be no visitation.

Donald Lee Powell was born October 24, 1930 at Edgar, Neb., the son of Owen Martin and Ruth L. (Stacy) Powell. He graduated from high school at Arco, Idaho and attended Idaho State College. On September 11, 1949, he was united in marriage with Gaye Jardine at Arco, Idaho. They lived in Arco until moving to Des Moines in 1953. In 1974, they moved to Houston, Texas, and in 1990 they retired to Lake Ponderosa. Donald was a contractor and last worked for Letsos Company in Houston. He was a Mason and Past Master of Southgate Lodge of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Donald is survived by his wife, Gaye of Montezuma; a daughter, Merilyn Powell of Houston, Texas; two sons, Gary Powell of Glendora, Calif.; and Marty Powell and his wife, Dawn of Montezuma; six grandchildren, Evan Romoff, Erika, Dallas and Blair Powell and Ashley and Morgan Powell; one brother, Garth Powell of Arco, Idaho; one sister, Arlis Crawford of Meridian, Idaho; and other relatives and friends.
