MIRIAM E. MCKEE, 99

Miriam E. McKee, 99, died Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in West Des Moines.

Her funeral service was Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. Burr Bryant officiating. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

Casket bearers were Anthony McKee, Jon McKee, Chris McKee, Brandon McKee, Roger McKee, and Bill Rempp.

Miriam was born on Aug. 21, 1903, in Fontanelle, the daughter of John Henry and Christina Welcher. She attended college at Oskaloosa and Cornell, and taught school for several years at Nemaha and Mt. Vernon before her marriage. Nov. 4, 1927, she was united in marriage with Lewis McKee at Indianola, and to this union, two sons and one daughter were born. They farmed northeast of Barnes City before retiring to Montezuma. For the past three years, she has resided at the Ramsey Home in Des Moines. Miriam directed the Barnes City Methodist Church choir for ten years, and was an active member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church. She was a past member of the Eastern Star and Senior Club. Miriam enjoyed flowers.

Miriam is survived by two sons and their wives, Douglas and Janice of Tucson, Ariz., and Bruce and Martha of Clive; one daughter and her husband, Carolyn and Stan McGrew of Morgan, Utah; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Montezuma United Methodist Church.
